Wine consumption in South Africa 2018-2023
As of 2023, the estimated consumption of wine in South Africa slightly decreased to 4.5 million hectoliters, a minimal 1.8 percent drop from its record high level of 4.6 million hectoliters recorded in the previous year. A major reduction in the wine consumed was registered in 2020, with 3.1 million hectoliters. This was mostly due to the effects of numerous COVID-19 related alcohol bans in the country, which then continued to have an impact on the consumption of alcohol in the first few months of 2021.
