Profit margin of wine producers in South Africa 2022
In 2022, the majority of wine producers in South Africa were making low profits at a net farm income level, with a share of 50 percent. Following this, approximately 38 percent of wineries made losses, whereas only nine percent made profits at sustainable levels. The declining profits of wine producers is due to a combination of drought, recovering from the ban on alcohol in South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic, and geopolitical factors.
