Buying lower-priced alternatives of confectionery products was the main action Japanese consumers would take if the prices of their preferred snacks and sweets were to rise. As revealed in a survey conducted in July 2023, around 33.5 percent of respondents would choose a similar type of product at a lower price level if price hikes were to affect their preferred confections. Only 18.5 percent would buy the same product at the same store regardless of price changes.
