Share of dogs identified by microchip in Italy 2007-2019
Using a microchip is the most popular way of dogs' identification at veterinary offices in Italy. However, a survey revealed that this was not always the case: in 2007, in fact, only 37 percent of dog owners would identify their animal through a microchip. This percentage doubled four years later, reaching 75 percent, and peaked in 2017 at a value of 88 percent. The popularity of microchips then remained stable in 2019 at 86.4 percent.
