The Scottish national football team command a dedicated following of supporters with thousands of supporters travelling internationally to attend their games. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) is a four tier football league system consisting of 42 teams. There are 12 team in the top tier, the Scottish Premiership, and 10 in each of the lower three tiers, named the Scottish Championship, Scottish League One and Scottish League Two.
Since the establishment of the Scottish Premiership in the 2013–14 season, Celtic Football Club (FC) are, as yet, the only team to have won. This success is facilitated by extensive talent acquisition and retention, with Celtic FC paying an average annual player salary of over 895 thousand British pounds, the largest of any club in the Scottish Premiership. This success has led to significant support with the average home attendance of football games in the Scottish Premiership in Scotland in 2018/2019, for the Celtic Football Club calculated to be approximately 58 thousand people.
