Child Protective Services
Child Protective Services (CPS) is a governmental agency in the United States that takes care of child abuse cases. Child abuse protective services vary from state to state, but they maintain the responsibility to respond to child abuse cases accordingly. CPS determines the legitimacy of the accusations and supplies resources for the affected children to protect them. If children are deemed unsafe in their homes as a result of abuse from their parents or guardians, the children will be consequently removed to keep them safe. Utah had the highest number of completed reports per investigation and alternative response worker in 2021, with 163 cases. The demographics of child abuse
Child abuse happens across all races and genders, but studies have found that more girls were abused than boys in the United States and American Indian and Alaska Native children had the highest rate of child abuse as of 2021. In that same year, around 138,128 children aged two to five were abused in the United States, which is the most common age of abuse victims. The number of child fatalities due to abuse or maltreatment has remained relatively steady since 2007, and in 2021, there were 1,753 deaths from child abuse or maltreatment and about 4.8 children died every day as a result of abuse and neglect. A victim may be abused multiple times by the same perpetrator or a combination of them. Most child abuse victims in the U.S. were abused by their mothers, fathers, or a combination of both.
