Share of U.S. young people who faced barriers to receiving mental health care 2023
According to a study conducted in 2023, approximately six in every ten young people in the U.S. experienced obstacles to receiving professional mental health care. Nearly a third of respondents mentioned they were embarrassed to ask for help or were worried about what people would think, while about 20 percent said they could not afford mental health care. This statistic illustrates the percentage of U.S. youth who experienced select obstacles when receiving or trying to receive professional mental health care as of 2023.
