Deaths associated and attributable to antimicrobial resistance globally in 2019
Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become one of the leading public health threats of the 21st century. Worldwide deaths directly attributable to AMR amounted to 1.27 million in 2019, while associated deaths totaled 4.95 million (including directly attributable deaths). South Asia had the highest burden among all the regions.
