The Netherlands was the the OECD country with the highest reinsurance retention rate for non-life insurance in 2021. In the insurance industry, the retention ratio refers to the portion of premiums (and therefore risk) that is kept on a company's books rather than being passed on to reinsurance companies. In 2021, the OECD average retention rate for non-life insurance was 84.8 percent.
